Donnette JosephDirector, Piano and Vocal Tutor
I started piano lessons at the age of 8, and soon found a love for composition - by age 10 I was enthusiastically writing my own songs! At age 17 I began teaching piano to children whilst completing my own piano grades. This formal training in classical piano led me to pursue a degree in Contemporary Music from the Academy of Contemporary Music, where I specialised in voice and composition. After a brief period as a pop star in a girl band, I went on to write songs for the hit platinum selling band, Big Brovas.
A change of direction led me complete a second degree in HR Business Management which prompted a move to a career in the city, while continuing to teach music part-time.
During 2013, whilst teaching, I realised how much I missed being in the creative environment where I could express my love of music and more importantly share it with others. It was then that I decided to leave behind my career in business to form Summit School of Music in early 2014. Summit has grown rapidly since then, expanding its student base and taking on more tutors to make a team of eight.
